Toddlers are very curious people. They like to explore the world around them and sometimes this can be dangerous. Here are some tips on keeping your child safe in your home.
First, make sure when you put your baby to sleep in his or her crib that the side rails are up. If the toddler can lower the rails, find a way to make sure they are locked. Not only can the toddler fall out, but the toddler can get in to many items in the house while you are sleeping.
If you use an infant seat in the home, make sure if you walk away to answer the phone, that you place the infant seat on the floor.
Never place a child's crib by blinds that have cords. The baby can wrap his or her neck in the cord and choke.
Install gates to stairways.
Lock any doors to garages, basements.
When purchasing furniture, buy furniture with rounded corners.
Place safety latches on all doors and cabinets, especially where cleaning products and medicines are located.
Keep sharp knives and kitchen utensils such as meat grinders and blenders up and away from your child.
Put covers on electrical outlets. The type that screw on are best.
Never run fans on the floor with an infant around, their fingers are small and can enter the grill area of the fan.
Never let a child put weaved typed furniture such as peacock chair over their head. The bottom is weaved where they can get stuck in the chair.
Remove all knick knacks, especially glass ones away from your toddler. If they break, they could get seriously cut.
Never place old refrigerators in your basement or outside without removing the door first. Many children like to hide and the door could shut and suffocate the child.
